Log Entries

To help troubleshoot problems with KioWare it is often helpful to view the Windows Event Log for pertinent log entries.  Click View Selected Entry or double click the event to see the event details.  See screenshots below.

Load Recommended Dialog Management

If your computer is connected to the internet, you can download the latest dialog/window blocking list.

Preferences

Load Settings

Upon load, the Configuration Tool can either prompt you where to load settings from (either from KioWare or an XML file), or the Configuration Tool can automatically load from KioWare or from a selected XML file.  If Multi-Settings Mode is enabled (see below), then you also need to specify which settings tree to load.

Default Configuration - specifies the normal KioWare settings (ie, not Multi-Settings Mode)
Local Settings - In Multi-Settings Mode, specifies a particular settings tree
Settings File - specifies the XML file

Save Settings

Similarly upon exit, the Configuration Tool can either prompt you where to save settings to (KioWare or an XML file), or the Configuration Tool can automatically save to KioWare or to a selected XML file.  If Multi-Settings Mode is enabled (see below), then you also need to specify which settings tree to save.

Default Configuration - specifies the normal KioWare settings (ie, not Multi-Settings Mode)
Local Settings - In Multi-Settings Mode, specifies a particular settings tree
Settings File - specifies the XML file

Unique XML Signatures

When KioWare settings are saved to a file, they are given a unique id that identifies the file before it's loaded into KioWare.  If unique XML signatures are written to the XML file, they are compared to an id in the registry and if they match, the XML file will not be loaded again.  But if this setting is enabled, it ensures that XML files will always be loaded because they will not have unique id to identify them with.

Multi-Settings Mode

In multi-user mode where KioWare is being used in a thin-client environment, KioWare is installed onto a server, and it may be important for individual thin-client's to load different configurations.  KioWare enables this through the concept of settings trees.  A tree structure can be created where each tree is given a name and a particular configuration is saved to that named tree.  If checked, then Multi-Settings Mode is enabled.

To run KioWare using the new registry tree see Set Registry Tree.

Password Protect Configuration Tool

If checked, then a password will be required to enter the Configuration Tool.
The default password is 3523 ("Pn4nca8lR0UfHlDKPimfRw==" in the registry).  Note that this is not the KioWare password.

Require Administrator to Run configuration Tool

If checked, then only a user logged on with administrator rights will be allowed to run the Configuration Tool.

Audit Current Settings

Rates current security type settings that are configured in KioWare.

Each setting is marked as one of three levels, Info, Warning, or Error.  To save this list for use later, you may right click anywhere on the page and save or print it.

Remote Help Desk

This tool will enable KioWare users to recieve assistance from one of our support representatives remotely.  It tries to connect to our server at kioware.com on ports 3523-3532, which means that your firewall could block the outgoing request, in which case the help desk connection will not work.  Note that this is an outgoing request, so you do not need to open up incoming ports on your server in order to get remote assistance from us.
If connected, our support staff will be able to control your mouse and keyboard in order to help out with the issue that you are having.

Please do not use the remote assistance utility until you contact KioWare support to verify your need for assistance.

System Reporting Tool

The System Reporting Tool is very useful for KioWare support.  It collects information about your computer, including event logs and KioWare settings so that support reps can help diagnose any problems that you may be experiencing.

When you press the Collect System Info button, you are brought to a new window:

You will need to provide your company name and a password.  Contact support to recieve the password, because it changes all the time and support needs to be expecting the system report, otherwise they won't know what it's for.
Press the Send Data via Web button to send.
Optionally, press the Open Data in Notepad button to view the content that will be sent.

KioWare Printer Language Monitor

This tool is used to configure monitoring of printers that support the PJL printer monitoring language.  This will enable KioWare to send status information about the printer to KioWare Server in order to notify technitians of problems such as paper out, ink low...This data is sent up to KioWare Server as heartbeat information.  Note that this will not work with network printers, only local ones.

Printers will usually have a printer and a driver with the same name.  However, the driver and the printer name are not always the same.  This tool allows the flexibility to set either the printer and/or the driver.
Enable Monitor Debugging will toggle a debug log (kioprmon_log.txt) that is written to the Windows system32 directory.  Most uses will never use this because the file can get infinitely large; it is for debugging purposes only.
